People of the BPA - Scott and Joel from H&S Companies
The craft beer and spirits industry is really all about the people and we want to celebrate that at the Brewers Professional Alliance. To do so, we've created our "People of the BPA" series. In this second edition, we visit with Scott Hunt and Joel Koch - the two most visible guys in the BPA.
A resident of Grand Haven, Scott is a CPA and Partner at H&S. Coming from a large family, he really enjoys being a husband, father and grandfather as well as traveling, riding motorcycles and playing golf. In fact, Scott says golf would be his chosen profession if he could just practice more. However, a diverse employment history in hospitality (managing full-service restaurants), sales (restaurant accounting and management software) and public accounting has proven to be a good fit for BPA clients. Breweries have worked with him on several key areas of business, including projections, startup and operational management, accounting, payroll and tax. Unable to decide on a favorite beer or brewery, Scott has dubbed himself a hop head instead.
Joel grew up in Sandusky, OH - home of world famous Cedar Point. Now residing in Rockford, MI with his wife Krista and their two daughters, his hobbies primarily revolve around sports and beer. A high school football official, he too would choose to make a living as a professional golfer. That said, he is very happy running the day-to-day operations of the BPA. As with Scott, a diverse employment background – promotional marketing sales and minor league baseball operations – has served well in helping clients get their business operations organized. A Cicerone Program® Certified Beer Server, he enjoys experiencing the diversity of the craft beer industry and working in Beer City, USA.
