Montana Brewery Falls Victim to Fraud
The Billings Gazette reported that a bookkeeper for Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co. was charged in district court, after being accused of embezzling nearly $10,000 from the brewery.
According to court documents, Lindsey Pickett gave herself approximately $9,450 in extra, unauthorized payments for office supplies between 2009 and 2011.
Don’t let fraud happen in your brewery! Implementing a system of checks and balances between departments and employees can help deter potential fraudsters. Also, implementing an effective hiring process, that includes background checks, can help weed out potential employees.
